Pricing

One fee per successful payment: a percentage of the gross amount (plus, in the US, a fixed part), rounded up to the penny or cent once. No monthly fee, no setup fee, no minimum fee, and nothing for a payment that fails or is declined. Our fee is never more than the payment. Holding a Tuppence card does not change the price — it earns cashback.

Price lists v2 (UK) and v2 (US), in force from 2026-09-24. The full rate card is at tuppence.ai/pricing/rates.

Fee
Consumer cards issued in the UK 0.79% per successful payment
American Express +1.00%
Commercial (corporate) cards +2.00%
Cards issued outside the UK +2.00%

Surcharges stack: every one that applies is added. A commercial card issued outside the UK pays 0.79% + 2.00% + 2.00% = 4.79%.

The same price for payments, payment links, subscriptions and credit top-ups.

Refunds free to make — the payer gets the whole amount back; our original fee is not returned
Disputes £15, only if the dispute is lost — nothing if you win
Failed or declined payments nothing

The smallest payment a card can make is 30p.

Quoted by the same engine that charges them:

Fee
Cards issued in the US — consumer, commercial and American Express alike 2.49% + 20¢ per successful payment
Cards issued outside the US +1.50%

The same price for payments, payment links, subscriptions and credit top-ups.

Refunds free to make — the payer gets the whole amount back; our original fee is not returned
Disputes $15, only if the dispute is lost — nothing if you win
Failed or declined payments nothing

The smallest payment a card can make is 50¢.

Quoted by the same engine that charges them:

Payment Our fee You keep
A $20 payment on a US card 70¢ $19.30
A $100 payment on a US card — American Express or corporate too $2.69 $97.31
A $100 payment on a card issued outside the US $4.19 $95.81
A 50¢ payment 22¢ 28¢

A customer buys credit with an ordinary card payment — the card rate, once. Every use of that credit afterwards costs nothing: no card fee per task, per call, per unit. Unused credit can be refunded to the card it came from; as with any refund, our fee on the top-up is not returned.

There is no minimum fee. In the UK there is no fixed part either, so a small payment costs its percentage and no more — 30p costs 1p.

In the US every payment also pays the fixed 20¢. At or below $8.03 that fixed part is at least half the fee, so the fee is at least double the rate as a share of the payment — a 50¢ payment costs 22¢. That is the one shape of traffic cards are bad at, and we would rather say so than take the money quietly:

  • your dashboard shows what your smallest payments cost and what the same money would have cost as credit (GET /v1/account/small_tickets has the same numbers);
  • the SDKs pass on a one-off notice the first time you create a payment that small;
  • you can set your own floor — minimum_payment_amount on your account, or Settings → Business — and a payment under it is refused amount_too_small, so an agent cannot make payments worth less than they cost you.

Standard payouts are free. Your balance is paid out every week once it reaches £50 ($50 in the US), and at the end of each month anything above £1 is paid out too. A new business’s first payouts start seven days after its first live payment. Instant payouts — 0.99% of the amount — are coming; they are not available yet.
